then I and many of my friends must be exceptions. I took 7 classes a semester, up to 4 with four hour lab sessions (that don’t count in course hours) and worked 30-40 hours a week. My incentive to finish in 4 years was that I paid for everything my Merit Scholarships didn’t cover (no federal aid since my parents were dairy farmers who stupidly wanted to be debt free 15 years after they purchased the farm). I knew the cost per hour of classes and wanted my money and personal finance‘s worth out of each one of them. I didn’t party late, sleep late I knew my goal and I went for it. 18-22 year olds have the energy to finish full loads in 4 years they just have to have the personal motivation of their own money going into it.

The bigger measure should be how much can a typical program produce in income for the the student considering a course of study. How much does the average graduate, from the desired program, earn compared to the amount of money (personal, parental, governmental, etc.) invested in earning the degree? A very simple ROI calculation that any prudent investor should consider.
